The Yi laboratory is interested in the research of pancreatic beta cells in Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes. The laboratory uses multidisciplinary approach to study pancreatic beta cell regeneration, function, stress and protection against autoimmune destruction in Type 1 Diabetes. Our goal is to discover and study novel therapeutic targets, and improve the treatment of both Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes.

The Mechanism of Pancreatic Beta Cell Replication

We are interested in studying gene networks and signaling pathways that control pancreatic beta cell replication. The laboratory set up an acute insulin resistance mouse model by infusion of an insulin receptor antagonist, S961, which induces dramatic and specific pancreatic beta-cell replication.
